The current agreement, which expires in December 2025, is held by Tapojärvi Sverige AB. After a revision and new procurement process, Kaunis Iron has signed a contract with Snells Entreprenad AB. The new agreement will take effect in January 2026 and will span two years. It includes loading, crushing, and related support services within production.
Snells Entreprenad previously managed mine services in Kaunisvaara from 2018 to 2023.
“We’re happy to continue working with Snells. By continuing to collaborate with a locally based company, we contribute to local purchasing that creates value both in and for the community we operate in,” says Johan Oja, Site Manager in Kaunisvaara.
Snells Entreprenad was founded in 1965 and is headquartered in Pajala. The company’s main operations are in mining and infrastructure projects in northern Sweden and Finland. With approximately 250 employees, Snells works with companies such as LKAB, Boliden, and Kaunis Iron.
Kaunis Iron’s collaboration with Snells Entreprenad will also continue under previous agreements in areas such as inbound transport, primary crushing, and truck loading in Kaunisvaara, as well as train loading in Pitkäjärvi.
“It feels incredibly good for us as a Pajala-based company to once again be entrusted with this responsibility by Kaunis Iron. Kaunis Iron’s operations have enormous significance locally and regionally, but also nationally. We naturally want to be part of that, as we believe we can contribute to creating a sustainable mining operation in Pajala municipality for many years to come,” says Magnus Pekkari, CEO of Snells Entreprenad.
Finally, we would like to extend our thanks to Tapojärvi AB for a successful collaboration over the past two years.
“We’ve learned a lot from working together and have progressed toward our vision of becoming the world’s best mine, where Tapojärvi has contributed valuable expertise and commitment,” concludes Johan Oja.
