    Kaunis Iron Group’s sustainability efforts are governed by a range of binding requirements, including laws, regulations, and voluntary commitments. We utilize the Notisum service to ensure that our operations comply with applicable regulations. Our ambition is to operate a fossil-free mining operation, meaning we aim to minimize our environmental impact and continually improve our processes.

    Binding requirements

    Our binding requirements include both statutory obligations and voluntary commitments, such as:

    • Laws and Regulations: Adhered to via the Notisum service, including permits and exemption requirements.
    • Ethical Guidelines: We follow SveMin’s ethical rules and sustainability guidelines.
    • ISO Certifications: We are certified according to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, ensuring we maintain high standards for quality and environmental management.
    • EU Principles: Our work is also guided by the EU principles for sustainable raw materials.
    Significant Environmental Aspects

    We annually map and evaluate our environmental aspects, including:

    • Land Use: Impact from open-pit mining and waste disposal.
    • Emissions: Carbon dioxide emissions from transportation, as well as noise and dust.
    • Chemical Use: Monitoring and safe handling of chemicals.
    Continuous Improvements

    We systematically work on continuous improvements across all areas of our operations. Key performance indicators are monitored regularly, and deviation management is a central aspect of our improvement efforts. All employees are encouraged to report deviations, which helps us identify and address problem areas.

    Regular internal and external audits ensure that our processes operate efficiently. The results from these audits are used to prioritize areas for improvement and ensure that we meet our long-term goals, including our vision of becoming the best mine in the world.
