    The transition to a fossil-free and climate-neutral society is a matter for all of us. Kaunis Iron want to be an active and leading force that takes great responsibility and own initiative.

    Commitment to the environment

    We work continuously to improve our processes and annually invest multi-million sums to minimize our negative environmental impact.One of our major challenges is to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions from our transportation.

    The Path to Fossil Freedom

    In 2023, emissions from our truck transports have decreased by 6 percent. The reduction is due to the following factors:

    • Reduced Roadworks: Fewer roadworks have led to fewer starts and stops in traffic, resulting in lower fuel consumption.
    • Fuel-Efficient Driving: Our drivers have received training in fuel-efficient driving, which has contributed to reduced emissions.

    We have also hired a new employee who will work full-time to ensure safe and fuel-efficient driving within our truck transport operations.

    Collaboration for an Electric Future

    Together with Volvo, we continue to explore the possibilities of electrifying our vehicle fleet. Over the past year, our collaboration has deepened, and we are now looking into the possibility of test-driving heavier electric vehicles.

    Ecological sustainability

    Our environmental work is based on constant work to improve, with annual investments of millions of kronor to successively reduce the risks of negative environmental impact.

    Social sustainability

    Economic sustainability

    We shall not be driven by short-term interests to optimise profits, but will work to lay the foundations in a long-term perspective for a functional mining industry in Pajala for future generations.
